Painful lump in breast effecting armpit

by Decky, Sep 13, 2006 12:00AM
Hi there,
I have had a painful lump in my right breast along the outer edge, i had it checked about 6 months ago and they told me it was probaly hormonal and sent me away. This did relay my worries slightly as it seems worse just before a period and then settles shortly after. Over the past two month's it has been extremely sore to the extent where i want to keep my bra on all the time, it has also stayed inflamed over the entire period. I have noticed the ache is spreading to my armpit i have no lumps under there just this constant aching feeling. I am very concerned right now. I am slightly concerned about going to the doctor's as i have already been sent to a specialist who said it was nothing. It seems to be getting worse from my first examination.
I would appreciate any advice and thank you in anticipation.

Dear Decky:  It is not uncommon for breasts to feel lumpy and painful, particularly around the time preceding and during the menstrual cycle.  Without examination, we cannot speculate on the cause of the pain or what this "lump" may be.  If you are concerned, you should let your doctor know that this has worsened and have it examined.  Alternatively, you might seek the expertise of a medical breast specialist (these are often associated with large academic medical centers).

Hi
Im thinking if it is hormonal then both breasts would be sore and usually before menstration, I know because thats what ive been told and mine are sore in both breasts usually one to two weeks before my period. Only to have one sore spot in one breast would concern me. I would definately go in and get checked again or a second opinion. Have you had a mammogram or ultrasound or both? Those would be the first steps and second opinion might help. I dont want to worry you but better to be safe than sorry.
Its your body you know if theres something not right.
Good luck

I get soreness just in the left armpit that comes and goes during my period. I had an ultra sound on the area and it was a lymph node and all was normal.

I suggest asking if you can have an ultra sound. It's easy to have done and will give you peace of mind.
