Painful lump under right nipple, with discoloration

Painful lump under right nipple, with discoloration

My boyfriend is a 25 year old male, and about 2 weeks ago he experienced hard and VERY painful lumps under both of his armpits that disappeared within about a week's time. The skin over the lumps was a bit reddish, but no rashes/ discharge/ chafing. Now he has similar symptoms, but under his right nipple. It is a small, hard, and also painful lump, which is accompanied with purplish-blue-ish discoloration. About 1 inch to the right of the nipple is a small reddish rash (that doesnt seem too problematic, but i thought i would throw it in there). We don't know what it could be. He has had mono before, and doesnt have any other mono symptoms (fever, tiredness) except for the lumps. He is otherwise healthy, doesnt smoke, no family history of cancer, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
-H

Dear LenkaBala, Over the internet without ability to evaluate including physical examination it is difficult to say what might be causing his symptoms.  It is best to have this checked out by a doctor who can see this and evaluate it appropriately in context.  Male breast cancer is rare, but one out of every 150 cases of breast cancer involves a man, usually in men over 60 years old.

Thanks. He is a med student and is taking his Step 2 in a week. there's no time to go to the doctors so we just wanted an expert second opinion on what it might be.

Thanks anyways,

Not meaning to intrude, but I think the doctors message was to see a doctor.  Your boyfriend may be fine but then he may not be.  He is studying to be a doctor...he needs to take care of himself before he can be a good doctor to others.  My brother-in-law is a doctor, so I know doctors well.  You must encourage him to see a doctor.  Better to find out now that there isn't a problem then find out later that the potential problem could have been prevented.
Take care.

You're right, and Ive been trying to get on him about seeing someone, but he really doesn't have time...and (interestingly) he is of the idea that it's unnecessary at this time to see someone. His lump is gone, however, and although it is a little tender and I insist there is some discoloration still left, the issue seems to be resolving.

Thanks for your help,

-H
