Palpable Lump - Negative Imaging

Palpable Lump - Negative Imaging

Hi! During my annual gyn exam (November), my doctor felt a lump in the left breast UOQ and refered me to imaging studies - mammogram and ultrasound. I am 34 with a strong family hx for breast cancer. Last week, I went for the imaging studies and both the mammogram and ultrasound were negative, but my gyn still feels a breast lump. What would you advise as the next course of action. I am concerned because my mother and grandmother had premenopausal breast cancer. Thank you for any help. My gyn wants to wait another 6 months, but of course I am very nervous about this condition.

Dear ebony30:  If a lump can be felt and it's origin cannot be identified, it is generally biopsied.  This can be done with a needle or as an excision.
