Papillomas

I am a 37 year old (healthy) female and was recently told I may have papilloma.  Just a year before this, I was told I had mondore's disease.  Can you tell me more about these two disorders.  Would this also be a concern for my five year old daughter in the future.

Dear Terri T, A papilloma is a benign (non-cancerous) wartlike growth on the skin, or the lining of a structure, for example, within the lining of a duct in the breast.

Mondor's disease is an inflammation of the surface veins of the breast or the chest wall.  A temporary problem that may follow trauma (such as surgery or injury), and is treated symptomatically.

These conditions are not hereditary.

papilloma is a benign (non cancerous) growth in the ducts of the breast (papillomas can occur in other places, too. ) They are a common cause of bleeding from the nipple. The important thing, however, is to be sure that's what it is. Papillomas are not harmful. But if you have bloody discharge, which is how most papillomas get found, you need to have a biopsy of some sort to be sure that's what it is. If a woman has lots of papillomas (papillomatosis) there can be an increase in the general risk of developing breast cancer. Mondor's disease means inflammation of the surface veins of the breast. It typically causes pain and redness in a streaky pattern in the skin of the breast. It's also not harmful, and very often has no particular cause. Sometimes it's associated with other diseases.
