Pappiloma with atypical cells

Pappiloma with atypical cells

My biopsy results were a pappiloma with atypical cells.  Does this mean it is abnormal cells that may or may not be pre cancerous? Is it smart to have it removed and checked more thoroughly for cancer cells or leave it alone?

papillomas come in different flavors, including benign papillomas with little or no atypical cells, those with some atypical cells, and those with distinctly atypical features. I guess there is some possibility of cancer with the atypical types. I don't know what criteria are used to determine which ones to leave alone or remove.

They are telling me I have pappiloma with atypical(not normal) cells and the surgeon will want to take a surgical wide swipe of tissue. I will know more after I see surgeon tomorrow.  I don't know how many cells..but his nurse told me the only way to be sure is to go in and get it out of there.  From what I am researching it sounds alot like thats how cancer in the duct starts and this may or may not be the very early stage of that. I feel lucky if thats the case.

Yes, from what I've read too, papillomas are a bit "iffy" and being proactive with them is probably a good thing. Best wishes and wide margins.

Oh hon, I'm sorry to hear your results were not quite as good as we were hoping! Get it checked! Better safe than sorry. That's the whole reason I had this second Biopsy done. I want to be 100% sure! And no - I haven't heard yet :P
