Partial inverted nipple

Partial inverted nipple

I was in for a annual exam.  The ob/gyn asked if I had always had a partially inverted nipple.  I had never noticed before.  She then dismissed it.  This was a first visit to a new ob/gyn.  I have no tenderness, no inflammation, no color change, leakage, scaliness, rash, nothing.  Nipples move in and out, depending.  I had never really paid attention to comparing my nipples, aside from looking for itchy, burning, tenderness, pain, leakage, the usual stuff.
I am 52.  I will be 1 year no period in June.  I am going for my annual mammogram next week.  I am getting a digital mammogram.  Will any nipple abnormalities show up?  or do I need to pursue this further for a closer look and alternative testing?

Dear dem51,   Inverted nipples can be a normal part of the anatomy, it also could be the sign of a problem.  If this is a new development or a change you would want to have it checked, as you are having a mammogram this week this is a good start, be sure to follow up with your ob/gyn after the mammogram so they will be able to discuss the results in context of your physical examination.
