I had a large lumectomy due to cluster microcalcifications and these findings were noted on my patholgy report;
1st speciman: densely fibrotic and hyalinized breast stroma. Large and small cysts present. Apocrine metaplasia noted.
2nd speciman: hyalinized dense fibrous stroma with large and small cysts together with foci of apocrine metaplasia.
Can you explain to me what these terms mean? I know there is no malignancy here but am confused and concerned about apocrine metaplasia and the hyalinized tissue. Is this something that needs to be watched? Is this a marker for future BC? My surgeon said he needs me to have another mammo 2 months post-op.
I am 39 with a strong family history of BC. (mom 42 when DX and cousin 32 and elderly grandmother with inflammatory BC) I have fibrocystic breasts and have had 2 previous lumpectomies about 12 years ago, both fibroadenoma. I've been having regular mammo's since I was in my 20's and have never had microcalcifications before.
Thank you so much for any info you can give me. This is a wonderul informative site.
