Pathology Results-Still worried

by azaudiotek, May 15, 2007 12:00AM
I had a core biopsy on the 2nd. Got a call last Thursday from my surgeon's office and they said the result was benign but want me to RTO in 6 months for another diagnostic mammo and u/s. I requested a copy of the path report sent to me and I received it over the weekend. It says: proliferative ductal hyperplasia without atypia, and non-proliferative duct ecstasia without carcinoma. I would have prefered to just have the lump removed all together but wasn't given that option. I don't want to be in the vicious cycle of mammo/us and biopsy continually. This makes me a little nervous. Should I get a second opinion? Or should I just wait the 6 months? Isn't my BC risk increased by this? Any help would be appreciated. Take care! Leah

When in doubt always get a 2nd opinion. If both doctors agree that you have a follow-up US in 6 months then you have your answer.  However, if they want to follow-up every 6 months for a period of years, then perhaps it would be time for a third opinion - ideally at a major Cancer Center.
