Pathology report, need answers

Pathology report, need answers

Just had stereotatic biopsy on both breasts.  Path report reads:
Fibrocystic changes including florid epithelial hyperplasia and sclerosing adenosis. Microcalcifications. Negative for an in situ or invasive component.  Other report read same except for Mild chronic inflmmation.  Doc and radiologist report follow up in 6 months.  Doc not too worried.  Says no surgery needed. Just need to watch.
Wouldn't it be better to take out area instead of waiting.  Mother had breast removal 17 years ago for cancer.  Need answers on exactly what the diagnosis means.

Dear marshmellow:  Florid hyperplasia and sclerosing adenosis are terms that describe an overgrowth of normal breast tissue.  These are benign conditions and they do not increase your risk of breast cancer.  However, if you are concerned, you should have this discussion with your doctor.
