Pea size lump found...need advice

Hi, my sister is 65. a pea size lump was found on her breast through a the second mammogram. However, the doctor didn't recommend an ultrasound he said he wanted to wait 6 months to see if there was a change in size. We have no history of breast cancer in our family. Is this a normal procedure or should she get a second opinion? Pls help. thank you.

Hi,
Experienced Radiologists are quite able to identify typically benign breast lesions depending on their characteristics. If no suspicion is detected, further tests or biopsies are not required.A 6 month follow-up is standard procedure to see if there are any changes.
Of course a second opinion is an option.Depending on how worried your sister is about this lump and the waiting for a recheck, she could certainly discuss with her doctor about her concern and see if a biopsy or even removal of this lump could be done for her own peace of mind.
Best wishes to both of you...
