Dear Natia, Vertebroplasty refers to a procedure in which a needle is placed into the vertebra and a plastic material injected which hardens and supports the vertebra (vertebroplasty). Alternately the collapsed vertebra is restored in height with a balloon before injecting the plastic (kyphoplasty).  At Cleveland Clinic we do use the kyphoplasty procedure as a method of pain relief for breast cancer patients with spinal bone metastasis.

Zometa is a relatively new biphosphonate.
