Physican may have missed lump

I am trying to help a doctor who did not detect a lump during an examination of a woman with large breasts.  A lump was subsequently found by another doctor and the patient diagnosed and treated for breast cancer.  Are there studies on how often even good, conscientious doctors miss lumps during examinations? This is I am sure something that doctors dread happening to their patients.

Yes, Doctors can miss lumps!  That is why it is our responsibility as patients to do our monthly self exams.  At age 34 I found a lump in my right breast.  I watched it for 2 months and it didn't change with my menstrual cycle so I called the Doctor.  I had to show my family practitioner, the doctor who did the ultrasound, the doctor who did the biopsy, two surgeons and the plastic surgeon where it was located.  It could only be felt when I was sitting up and then it was still hard to locate.  It turned out to be DCIS but due to the large are affected, I had a mastectomy.  Please, do your monthly exams!
