Please answer..I am sick with worry for my mom...

Help! I just found out that my 69 year old mother ( who is very active and healthy otherwise) has had an inverted nipple ( 1 breast) for a year now. Its time for her yearly physical, and mamogram (mammogram). I knew something was going on..but she hates to talk about it...finally she confessed today. Here is an excerpt from her email:

"I DO have to go back to clinic . They want to re-check me as they don't know
about the inverted nipple....its been that way for over a year. They took a
special mamo of it last August & again this time & see nothing but they want
me to see Dr. ***...he is the same surgeon I had before... for the
biopsy. They just want to make sure it is okay. Dr *** agrees I should
be sure, because it "feels different". No lump. No mass. It is just 'firmer'
than my other breast..The lady that gave me the mamo
has both her nipples inverted ...it just happened ...for no reason she said
& its been that way for several years. "

Please help with any thoughts---she had a scare a few years ago..had a needle biopsy..but it was just calcifications.
Now, she has to have another biopsy. I did a search on the web, and inverted nipples are damn scary.
I know shes doing the right thing...getting it checked out...but...I am so scared. Any info would be helpful. Thank you.

First of all calm down; your mother seems to be doing exactly what she should be doing in regards to this problem. Inverted nipples can have many causes; only one of which is related to cancer. Of course any abnormality should always be ck.d out and she is doing this.   Regards ...

Yes, your mom needs a calm daughter right now and you can be that for her  ~
I have had an inverted nipple all of my 47 yrs.  6 months ago I have stage 1 breast cancer in that same breast and just today ( ! ) ended all my treatments. I asked 3 docs prior to surgery if my inverted nipple had anything to do with getting cancer. All said
- no - , my nipple is inverted yes, but otherwise fine.
I wish for your mom that she simply has an inverted nipple. To know, getting medical help is the right thing to do....
