Pregnancy after BC

by Robinette, Oct 10, 2002 12:00AM
As of August 11th 2002,I am a 5 year Breast Cancer survivor.  I have been taking tamoxifen for 4 years and 7 months.  In March 2003 I will stop taking Tamoxifen.  I would like to know my chances of a recurrence if my husband and I decide to have another baby.  My chemotherapy did not induce menopause.  I have 2 healthy children, but, would like another baby.  Am I just dreaming?  I have received conflicting information on this.  March is fast approaching and, I am anxious for information.  Please help.  My cancer was stage I and hormone receptor positive.

Dear robinette, It is generally recommended that pregnancy be delayed 2 to 3 years after adjuvant treatment.  The delay is not because of the influence of the pregnancy on the cancer, but rather to delay childbearing until after the time of greatest risk of recurrence of the tumor.  You might want to discuss this with both your breast cancer doctor and your ob/gyn.
