Problems with implants after surgery

Problems with implants after surgery

I had a double (non-radical) masectomy 2 years ago.  It was necessary after lumps formed from silicone injections from the early 70's (yeah, I know, pretty foolish).  Six months after the masectomies I had saline implants for my reconstructive surgery. The implants are not even, my left breast cannot be touched because it causes too much pain, and I feel that my right breast may be loosing solution.  I have contacted the surgeon who did the original surgery and he is unconcerned.  He stated that the difference in the location is "minor" and that, because I am middle-aged I should expect that my breasts would be "droopy".  I contacted another surgeon who did measurements showing the difference and presente these measurements to my orginal surgeon, who was still unconcerned.  My original surgeon said that because the surgery was a "difficult one" that I should be happy with what I've got.  Now I am at my wits end:  I need to find a new surgeon that can hopefully fix what the first surgeon did (or didn't do), but I don't know how to go about finding one that will be honest with me.  Am I wrong in believing that I shouldn't be this uncomfortable?  Is there a way they can check to see if there is leakage?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I travel constantly, so I can go anywhere in the country---I just want the best!!

Dear Debi:  Since this is a breast cancer forum, we deal more with reconstruction as it pertains to breast cancer.  However, I would look for a board certified plastic surgeon and have a frank discussion with him/her.  You may even consider more than one opinion.  In any case you should carry your records of all you have had done - with you.

This is in response to a posting I read e mailed by a lady named Debi who had silicone injected into her breasts in the 70's. I too also had silicone injected into my breasts last summer and I am searching for a quailified Dr. to perform a reconstructive surgery on my breasts. But before I do this I want to make sure this is the right thing to do. I don't want to jump into something else to quick and make another big mistake. Having silicone injected into your body has been a very fast growing trend and there isn't much information or resources out there to educate people. I have spoken to and seen several local and out of state Doctors and have yet to find one with enough knowledge. If there is anyone who has been in a similar situation or has some information that might benefit me.......please e mail
