Progesterone Replacement

Progesterone Replacement

I have been breast cancer free for 7 years and am still on Tamoxifin (tamoxifen). I have experienced difficulty in losing weight gained during chemotherapy. Also experience many post-menopausal symptoms. I am also estrogen receptor positive. Can I use a progesterone stimulating topical cream called Prolief by a company called Arbon and will such things help with menopausal symptoms and weight loss.

Dear dottie1:  In general, hormone replacement, including progesterone, is not recommended.  As a side bar, research has demonstrated that there is no benefit to taking tamoxifen beyond 5 years.  If you are disease free and have been on tamoxifen 5 years, you may wish to discuss stopping this with your doctor.  Also, discuss your symptoms with your oncologist and your gynecologist, there may be things they can recommend to help with your symptoms that carry less risk.
