Provera causes Breast cancer

I had heard that the drug Provera has been found that it causes breast cancer. Knowing that Depo-provera ( the birth control shot) has provera in the name, can that also cause breast cancer?

Dear ma4life:  It has long been suspected that hormone therapy (hormone replacement and birth control) may contribute to the development of breast cancer.  The only conclusive trial was done in postmenopausal women on hormone replacement therapy and showed that women taking HRT (both estrogen and progesterone) had a higher likelihood of developing breast cancer.  Studies with birth control pills have gone both ways.  It is still suspected but not proven as yet.
