Questiions about systemic treatments after bi-lateral masectomy

Just turned 49. am peri-menopausal...(have skipped for months then have one) ..I had a bi-lateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction using tram In July. I'm Stage 2A, 2.3 size, clear margins, ER/PR positive, HER negitive (not overexpressed), Histologic grade2, Sential lymph node plus 2 others clear. No signs of anything in unaffected breast.. Have not yet had onco type test done. Nor yet seen oncologist. That is scheduled for Sept 8th... I've been told this is a very favorable path considering it's breast cancer...and I'm wondering if Chemo and/or hormones would be a benefit or not? I am also wondering what are chances of recurrance with no other treatments? Also it is true that when you have surgery tiny dust particles of cancer dust is released when it hits the air? I will be aksing my Doctor but wanted to have some thoughts before hand.

Thanks

Calleen

Dear Calleen:  Tiny particles of cancer dust are not released when air hits it.  This is a myth.  Whether or not you will benefit from chemotherapy will depend upon a variety of factors and would be best determined by your oncologist.  When you meet with your oncologist, details of risk vs benefit should be a part of the discussion.
