Question: Please read and respond

by tbsage, Nov 05, 2007 06:01PM
I hope this isn't a stupid question.  I have a biopsy scheduled this Friday.  I have a small Microcalcification cluster in my left breast.  I have breast cancer on my moms side of the family.
My question is:  Will they be able to determine if a micro is malignant no matter what size or as they grow, can they turn into a malignancy?

The most common patterns seen in mammography are masses and calcifications.  Microcalcifications may be suggestive of cancer, but doctors need to verify that suspicion by doing a biopsy of the area in question.  Only then can a definite diagnosis of cancer be made.  Whether a microcalcification is malignant or not does not depend on any absolute size of the calcification.
