Question about biopsy

by ga.deb, Sep 06, 2007 10:53PM
First, I would like to say what great women are on this forum. You can just feel the warmth and kindness and faith here. I just had a mammogram and they called me to come back for the magnification which showed I had microcalcification with a Bi-rad of 4. I have to see a oncologist
surgeon next week and he will do the Sterotactic biopsy. My question is does this hurt and should
I take something before I go. They said they don't give you anything to calm you. Please remember me in your prayers. I have put this God's hands so I'm pretty calm knowing he is with me.
Thanks again for all the support you ladies give. Amazing so glad I found this group. Debbie

Debbie- I just had a sterotactic biopsy this morning.  I did not take anything before I went.  The procedure was not horrible, in fact, I felt very little.  The table is a macbre looking thing with a huge hole in the middle for your breast.  You can't see anything, but you can talk to them.  The injection was not bad, hardly felt it.  I felt them take one biopsy, stung a little, I told them and they reinjected and all was fine.  It is the not knowing if it is cancer or not that is the hardest part.  My heart was pounding so hard, but the whole thing was not painful.  I am at home, hardly sore.  I have taken Tylenol Extra Strength today.
I know this is awful and I will be thinking of you.  This is my first post, although I have been reading this page for 3 very long weeks while waiting for my appointment.  Now the longest wait for results...

Thanks for your comments. I saw the surgeon today and the biopsy is next Friday the 21st. Then I will go to his office on Tuesday and get the results. He said he never gives the results on the phone even if everything is okay. How long do you have to wait for your results? Isn't this just nerve racking.
My mother died from cancer so I'm pretty stressed. Thanks so much for responding. I was beginning to think no one would. In the section where you can ask the Dr. a question one of the women said that she saw stars with this type of biopsy so you have made me feel so much better. I will keep you in my paryers and hope we are both lucky and blessed not to have cancer. Thanks

I am so glad I was able to help.  I just got my results today (by phone) and it was benign.  This has been so stressful, and I am so sorry you are going thru it,too.  I teach Kindergarten and I went back the next day.  I was only a little tender and have a bruise, it is the mental stress that is so difficult.  You may want to take someone with you to drive you home, not because of the pain, but I was simply wiped out from not sleeping the night (or weeks!) before and from the stress of knowing I was having a biopsy.  I now have to have a mammo in 6 months.  I wonder if I will always have to have one in 6 months???
I am sure your mother's death increases your worry.  I will be thinking, praying, and hoping all is well with you.  Try to take good care of yourself until the 21st and try to sleep, but I know that is easier said than done.  Please keep me updated when you find out your results.

Thank you so much.  I was just overwhelmed and really had tried to prepare myself for the worst. I had the best sleep last night in  3 weeks, but I keep thinking about you and all of the other women still waiting or going thru bad news.  Keep me posted.  I will be praying for you.

I just had a right breast biopsy and they removed a bloody nodular. Can anyone help me understand what this might mean? I go back for the results on Thursday.

Thank You and God Bless

I guess I might need to explain a little more, and please keep in mind I really don't know how all this works. I had a mammogram on Aug. 28 , ultrasound two days later, they found a mass and I also have a bloody nipple discharge. I had to have surgery on the 14th. Everything happened so fast and I'm just confused and scared of the unknown.

Thanks for asking. It was not as bad as I expected. When I got home I slept most of the afternoon and was very sore. They had me apply heat on Sat. and still pretty sore today. We went to Outback to eat Sat. evening for our 32nd. wedding anniversary. Okay, I married when I was a baby. ha
Thanks for remembering the date of my biopsy.I'll let you know the outcome Tuesday evening. The surgeon said he never gives the results on the phone whether good or bad. So we see him at 1:00 Tuesday. I hope you are feeling much better and the stress is gone. The worry is alway's the hardest
part. My husband just came in and said lets go get an ice-cream and I said I wasn't dressed or nor did I have my hair and makeup done. He said who cares no one will see you! Men! Anyway, thanks for remembering the dates and thinking of me. Debbie

Our 23rd anniversary was Saturday! congrats on 32!  I hope you went for that ice cream.
I am sorry you are so sore.  I never had to apply heat.  I feel so much better now.  It took about a week and a half for all of the soreness to go away.  I still have a big bruise.
I think I like that your surgeon wants to speak with you either way.  I still have some questions, but will have to call to have them answered.  This way, you can ask things either way.  I am worried about my increased risk since I have had microcals already.  I am thinking about changing centers when it is time for my 6 months.  We live about an hour away from a bigger center; I may go there.
I will be thinking about you; the waiting is so awful.  Let me know,
Dawne
PS- We went to Outback when the results came in... maybe you can go back Tuesday!

Thank goodness mine was benign too. My husband and I sat in the treatment room for an hour an a half till the Dr. came in. I could hear him in other rooms and then I had it figured out that I would be last since it was bad news and he needed more time with me. My husbands phone rang and my 31 yr. old daughter was having a fit wanting to know what was going on and why I had not called.
She said that she had already bitten her nails off and now she was working on her fingers. ha
So all is well. Hope you are doing great. Isn't it amazing how people can care about others and not even know them as we have. I have to also have another mammogram in 6 mos. and will have to see the surgeon again. Take Care, Debbie

That is wonderful!! I have thought about you all day and I am so happy it is good news! Isn't benign the best word in the language?  I would have been thinking the same thing as you after an hour and a half; I am glad your husband was with you!  Check back in 6 months!!
Take care,
Dawne
