Question concerning ultrasound

Question concerning ultrasound

I had a mammogram and was told that it was abnormal and should have an untrasound.  I had a hysterectomy 28 years ago and have been on hormones ever since.  I take Estratest HS and recently have been waking up with heat flashes.  My GYN told me to increase them to 2 approximately 3 times a week or as I see a difference.  The ultrasound showed something but I was not told what.  Now I am to see a surgeon for a biopsy, I would suppose.  Could the hormones have shown the "unknown" on the mammogram and ultrasound?  I'm very confused at this point, and naturally upset.  My family dr's nurse told me it could have been anything showing and is very small.

If something is seen on Mammogram it is not unusual to follow with an Ultrasound. Ultrasound often is used to differentiate between a solid nodule and a fluid filled cyst. Neither test can tell absolutely if something is benign or malignant and a biopsy is usually the next step. Only a biopsy can provide a definite diagnosis. The hormones can't themselves show anything on either test. Recently it has been shown that the least amt. of Hormones one takes is best though. The reason you weren't told what was seen on your tests is because that's pretty much impossible until some type of biopsy is performed. Regards .....
