RIGHT BREAST MASS THAT CAUSES PAIN

by etolleson, Jan 09, 2006 12:00AM
I was diagnosed with fibrocystic disease in my early 20s and now have a very large breast mass in my right breast.  I have already been to the doctor and I am scheduled for a mammogram and an ultrasound.  He said a mass this size should be considered dangerous.  But how worried should I be until I get the results of my mammogram.  I am worried that either way I will have to have surgery, even if the mass is benign.

Dear etolloson:  Any new breast mass needs to be evaluated.  Size is not necessarily an indicator of cancer.  Once you have the results of the mammogram and ultrasound, your doctor should be better able to discuss this lump and any further investigation/treatment that will be needed.
