If the cancer is in the ducts how do they know its not in all the ducts? And if I'm understanding right the microcalcifications were all clumped together but there was no actual tumor. So I don't get how they know what to remove. I guess I'll get some answers today when I see the surgeon.
If your biopsy came back with abnormal cells then you will have a lumpectomy and if that shows cancer then radiation would follow. This is my understanding so far.
In my case, they found atypical cells with pappiloma and the lumpectomy is next to see if there are cancer cells in there amongst the abnormal cells they already discovered, then that would make me Ductal Carcinoma In Sitsu, and radiation would follow. My surgeon does not expect to find Invasive so that would mean no chemo, and I hope he is right. I hope this helps a little. You may be different than myself however.
No lumpectomy yet. Had biopsy this past monday and we meet with the surgeon tomorrow.
Did you have lumpectomy yet? Radiation usually follows that, and I would like to know as I am right behind you in this so far.
