Radiation or not

Radiation or not

I had a complete mastectomy.  The tumor was ductial invasive carcenoma - it was 3.5 cm and two lympy nodes were involved.  One Dr. told me I did not need radiation.  One first said he wanted me to but is now deliberating. and of course my plastic surgeon doing the reconstruction is totally against it.  I feel caught in the middle and need some expert help with this very important decision.  I am 62 years old and of course post-menopausal.  The nearest places for me to have radiation are an hour away from where I live and I am still working so it would be no easy task.  I am trying not to base my decision on that but it would enter in.  HELP.

Hi,

With the size of tumour you mention in your case you should go ahead and get the radiation treatment.

This is known to increase the disease free survival, prevent chances of recurrence and therefore you should talk to your breast specialist or oncologist about this.

Do let us know how you are doing.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.
