Rapid breast growth

I am 18 years old, and have recently noticed the dull aching sensation felt when breasts develop, and notice my left breast growing at a rapid rate, getting to be noticeable to others around me the difference in size between my two breasts.  should i be concerned, especially because of the general pain in the left breast?

Dear Emily, Breast pain is most often due to some benign (non-cancerous) cause.   Try to notice if there is some relationship to your menstrual cycle.  Changes in hormone levels can have something to do with breast discomfort and is often referred to as cyclical breast pain.

It is not uncommon for there to be some difference in the size of the breasts.  In some cases it is merely the rate of growth of one breast is faster than the other breast, and eventually they even out.   Each individual has some variations in the timetable as to when the changes of adolescence are completed and you may be experiencing some further development.  

Of course if you are continuing to have concerns, discuss these with your health care professional who can evaluate your situation in detail after a discussion and a physical examination.
