I am a African American ago 34 years old and have been going thru this seens I was 16 years old. In 1993 I had my first Fibroadenma (5cm) removed from my right breast closer to my arm pit. Again, I had to go back in 1995 and get yet another one removed out of the same breast (upper top). I was doing fine up until last year  March (2008) I had 2 removed from the right breast which one of them was 3cm and the other 5cm. They were diagnosis as Phyllodes Tumors. I "again" had to return in July (2008) to have 3 more lumps removed this time from my left breast. Not sure why they decide to shift but they did. It is now 10/29/2009 and I am schedule to go to the Breast Center here in my town 11/3 to get another Mammo and Sonogram due to the fact.....there back!!!! This time in both breast. I am getting very, very frusrtated with this. My question is....are they waiting for them to become Cancerous before they do a Macestamoy. I have a husband and 3 childern that need there mother here. I just want to know what questions I should ask as far as removing them completely and rebuilding them.

Dear Candy112174:  Fibroadenomas are benign tumors that can grow to be quite large and will often go away on their own (in time).  There is no medical reason to remove fibroadenomas as long as there is certainty that they are fibroadenomas.  Phyllodes tumors are tumors that can range from benign to malignant.  In either case, it would be important to remove these and a good portion of healthy tissue around it.  Mastectomy may be a recommendation if these are large or malignant.  You may want to have a discussion with your breast doctor about the situation and specifically ask the question about options.  What these are may help determine the most rational choices.  If you remain concerned, consider a breast specialist (these are often affiliated with large academic medical centers).
