2 yrs ago I had a right partial Mastomectomy, friday i found a lump about the size of a nickle ( or a big peanut) in my right armpit it is very hard doent really hurt, my hand seems to swell a bit and go numb.  Is this something I should worry about.  I am very scared i could have something to do with my previous cancer, am i just imagining the worst or should be concerned.  I posted on thecancer postand got no replies to my concerns can someone please help me?

I went to the doctor yesturday and we found 1 more good size lump in my right breast I go today for a bilateral mammogram and ultrasound, then to the surgeon, my doctor seems to be very concerened at the size of the one in my right breast, the good news is like last time there is nothing detectable in my left breast I guess I will know more after the tests.  Thank you for responding to me.

Dear Laura:  Without evaluation, it is impossible for us to speculate on what this lump might be.  There are several possible explanations.  The general rule of thumb is that when a lump is found, it needs to be evaluated.  You should have your doctor take a look.

Hi Laura,
The lump in your armpit could be from many causes, a local recurrence of the cancer is just one possibility. Infected lymph node, sweat gland or hair follicles in the armpit can cause a lump as well.

To best quell your concern, call your doctor or your surgeon for an appointment. They can evaluate the lump and advise you on further treatment.
