Recall for mammogram

I had a mammogram in 2007.  My next one was 10/10/13.(Bad, I know)  The results from this years was "normal".  A few days ago, the office called me back stating they had just received the results from '07 (different Dr) and would like to do another mammogram.  My question is, why would my latest results ("normal") supercede any other one???  I'm confused!

This discussion is related to Please explain, ask to return for second mammogram, I'm really nervous..

The shortest answer would be "for comparison" ... with such a long time between Mammograms (usually only 1 year) it isn't surprising that there may well be differences. "Normal" is a very broad and loose term and having reviewed your films of 6 years ago additional views may be very helpful to clarify certain findings. I would advise yearly Mammograms and perhaps Ultrasound also in the future. It isn't a matter of which film supercedes (as you say) the other but rather being cautious and defining the differences.  Regards ....
