Recent breast changes

I posted this on the Dr's forum but I think I might get more information from you wonderful women!

Not sure if I should run to the doctor or take a deep breath and relax.  I am 33 years old and since the birth of my 2 children, who are now 6 and 8, I have been over weight.  I am now losing the weight.....25lbs gone already and when I did my self exam this month I was alarmed.  Both of my breasts are now nothing but lumps, which isn't the big question.  In my left breast there is one lump that is harder than all the rest and there is also an area of thick tissue in the upper outer section that isn't there on my right breast.  I had a mamogram (mammogram) 2 years ago for a lump, had a lumpectomy and turned out to be a fibroadenoma.  I guess it boils down to this.  Is it normal for your breasts to change so much with weight loss and should I at least get the two areas of concern in the left breast checked out or should I wait a month and recheck.

Thank you

Hi,
Weight loss can effect the size of the breasts by reduction of fatty tissue but it would not increase the denseness of breast tissue.Dense breasts are normal at your age and so is lumpiness, especially before your menstrual cycle starts.
If I were you I would have the doctor check the lump and the thickening of the tissue in question, that you recently detected in your left breast.
Anytime a lump in the breast is felt,it should be evaluated by a physician just to make sure if this lump is a cyst,Fibroadenoma or a more serious problem.
It's impossible to tell you over the internet what this mass could be,but a simple Ultrasound would be a valuable test so the radiologist can proceed,if he/she deems it necessary to further investigating this lump.
I really hope it's nothing serious, but it's always better to be safe and have peace of mind.
Wishing you all the best and good luck! :)

I know it has been a while but I wanted to just give you the update.  Had diagnostic mamo and ultrasound.  Doc says everything looks good.  Ultrasound showed 7-8 cysts in each breast! Apparently I have FBD but I could never feel it before because I was too fat!  At least now I know what my breasts are supposed to feel like.

Thank you again for taking the time to answer my question.  I really appreciate it!

Hi, and thank you for the update and the good news!!.
For Fibrocystic Breast condition you could  take a few simple steps to alleviate symptoms.
1) taking herbal evening primrose oil supplement every day.
2)Cut your caffeine intake to reduce pain and tenderness(coffee, black tea, cola drinks, chocolate, and over-the-counter drugs containing caffeine)
3)Go on a low-fat diet.

It's also very important to perform monthly self-exams and visiting your healthcare provider for regular medical exams.
Wishing you the best and a long healthy life.

Thats the funny thing.....I am on a very strict diet (47 lbs lost and counting) no fat, no carbs, no sugar, and no caffeine.  Besides that the cysts never hurt me and they dont appear to fluctuate with my cycle either.  Oh well, people always said I was different!  :)   I will definately continue doing my monthly BSE's.
Thanks again
