Recently found lump in left breast

Recently found lump in left breast

I am 30 yrs old and wil be 31 this month. About a month ago I went for my annual check up.  I had been having some pain in my left breast so I brought it up to my Dr.  The Dr. did an exam of both breast. While examing my left breast the Dr did notice a lump in my breast.  She then referred me to have an ultrasound done. I went and had the ultrasound done this week. While the ultrasound tech was doing the test, I made a mistake and kept looking at the monitor. When the tech was in the area that I was having pain, I noticed a round black spot on the monitor and the tech took measurements of that area.  I am worried now that I saw her taking measurement of the spot. Does anyone know if this should be something that I need to worry about? Everyone that I talk to about this says that everything is fine and don't worry about anything. I try but in the back of my mind all I keep thinking about is that there is really something wrong. Please help...

Hi there,
You don't say if you or your doctor have received your ultrasound report which includes many details, and one section on the report will show you a Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BIRADS) score.
BIRADS was developed by the American College of Radiologists as a standard of comparison for rating mammograms and breast ultrasound images. It sets up a classification for level of suspicion.
The numbers go from 1 to 5.The higher the number, the more the finding is suspicious.
I really wouldn't worry too much because typically a cyst which is a fluid filled sac, appears completely black on ultrasound and has a smooth rounded border whilst a Fibroadenoma (solid lump) will appear grayish. Also taking the measurement during an ultrasound procedure, is simply to see how big the lump is.
Cysts and fibroadenoma, both benign in nature, are the most common lumps found in the breast tissue. Also if you are experiencing some pain,it's a good sign,(if I can say that) since pain is almost never associated with breast cancer.
Hoping that your ultrasound report, will be favorable and nothing to worry about.
Best wishes...
