Recommended time between chemo regimens

by pedinurse, Sep 29, 2009 02:01PM
Is there any reason why a patient can't complete one regimen (i.e.: CA) and immediately begin the next (T)?  It just seems that the sooner the next round started, the sooner it would be over.

Dear pedinurse, The rest period between chemotherapy cycles is so that the body can recover from the chemotherapy, particularly the blood counts (white blood cells, and platelets), to a safe level.  The time needed depends on the type of chemotherapy given and regimen being used, as well as the recovery of the individuals blood counts.

For additional information about chemotherapy you may want to check out the website www.chemocare.com.  You can read about chemotherapy in general as well as look up specific chemotherapy medications, and side effects.
