Recurrance

Hi,
  I am 30 years old and two years ago I opted for a subQ mastectomy with reconstruction because of precancerous tissue found in my breast.  I have not had any problems since and I have had 3 follow up mamograms that came back normal. However, I am now having strange test levels in my Alk Phosphatase.  This has been ongoing for over a year now.  My range is anywhere between high norm to 210.  I have no other liver levels that are high...and no other abnormal test results, CBC or others...however I am suffering from pain in the upper right quadrant of the stomach..right on the rib cage area (front and back).  I have had two ERCP's to determine if there is liver problems..and that has been ruled out.  But, I am dumbfounded on what it could be, it seems my PCP and the GI doctor have given up.  My concern is that it could be the cancer, since I did not opt for a more aggressive treatment.  Any information you could provide will be greatly appreciated.

Dear mayflower, It is impossible to comment on the risks of cancer recurrence with or without further treatment after your mastectomy based on the information you presented.  Precancerous tissue is a broad term and can be interpreted in a number of ways.  

Alkaline phosphatase is an enzyme found in bone, liver, intestine, and placenta.  Increased levels can be associated with many conditions from liver disease to side effects of many medications.   Elevated levels alone cannot be interpreted to rule cancer in or out.
