Recurrent Breast Cancer

I am hoping you can help my friend, Jane.

Jane has

******recurrent High-grade infiltrating ductal carcinoma (nottingham grade III, MSBR score 8/9.)  Perifpheral/additional capsular/right breast tissue margins = negative.

*10 years ago:   first mastectomy, reconstruction/radiation

*7 years ago:   2nd mastectomy, reconstruction/chemotherapy

*7-16-10:  3rd mastectomy with above description*******

Now WHAT can she do?  WHERE can she go?  WHO will help save the life of this MOTHER, SISTER, WIFE, DAUGHTER, FRIEND?

I am hoping to hear from you regarding treatment/trial/referral.  Please help find an expert/artist to save her life.

Thank you for being willing to listen . . . and, hopefully,  to respond.,  . . . Nancy

You don't say where you're located. If you're in the U.S. you might benefit from a second opinion from one of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network institutions. (google it - it's a U.S. government website). These are the cancer centers doing the latest cancer research. They are located all over the U.S. and are usually affiliated with universities. Even consulting with another oncologist unaffiliated with your current one is good. Different doctors bring different perspectives to situations.

There may be a clinical trial for which your friend may qualify. Certainly, it is always useful to seek second opinions. In any case having an open and frank discussion with your medical team can be useful. They may be making assumptions about what Jane wants - and not have ever asked directly. It happens.

I'm not quite clear about the previous two surgeries as well as this third. A mastectomy is the removal of the affected breast tissue .... how there could be 3 of these procedures is beyond me at the moment. You don't state if this is involving both breasts and exactly what type of mastectomy she had. We only answer concerns here on this Forum and cannot diagnose or recommend treatment. There is no mention of any lymph node involvement; only that the margins of this 3rd surgery are clean which is a good thing. I would think that she will, as in the past, receive the appropriate treatment recommended by her Oncologist. We have no connection to Treatment Centers or Physicians anywhere in the country so your local facilities are the best place to seek answers to your concerns. Kindest regards .....
