Recurring breast cyst

Recurring breast cyst

A year and a half ago, I had a couple of cysts removed from both breasts by aspiration. I then got pregnant, and the cysts didn't seem to return. Last April, I found more cysts, and I had them removed in April and May. My doctor told me that they didn't warrant being sent off for examination. The fluid looked dark to me, but she didn't seem concerned. None of the cysts have hurt, but I have one now that is starting to hurt when I push on it. My doctor said my cysts could be recurrent with my menstrual cycle and there wasn't really a need to have the aspirated all the time. This new pain is worrying me. On top of everything else, my health insurance ends at the end of this month, so I don't think I can go back in to see my doctor about it. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had experience with cyst pain and recurring cysts that fill up and empty each month. Thank you.

Hi,
Cysts are so common that almost every woman will have some during her lifetime.
Breast cysts can appear at any age and are related to the increasing hormonal fluctuations. The pain is particularly felt prior to the menstrual cycle and subside after the menses finish.
Avoiding caffeine, (Coffee, chocolate and colas) salty food and fatty food can lessen the pain considerably and sometimes even shrink the lump.
Unfortunately there isn't much one can do about these cysts, many young women have this problem.
These benign lumps do not increase the risk of cancer and also when pain is felt it's almost never associated with this disease.
The only risk, if you have frequent cysts, is mistaking a solid lump for a cyst and not having it checked out. Hence, every time a new cyst or lump occurs, it must be evaluated.
If you have no insurance you could call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345 to see if and where there may be assistance available in your area.

Best wishes and happy Holidays...
