Red Spot on breast

by sltanner51, Aug 13, 2008 09:36AM
My mother had a mastectomy in 2004 and just got over a total hysterectomy.  She is 84.  When I was getting her ready for her bath a couple of days ago, she had a very bright red spot with some dark red colorations on the scar in the breast she had removed.  I was reading your article and wondered how your appointment came out.  She has a doctor's appointment tomorrow and I will show him the spot.

This discussion is related to Breast cancer survivor and red spots.

Hi there.

In a patient previously treated for breast cancer, any new finding or lesion in the surgical scar should be evaluated thoroughly.  These are most commonly small hematomas, caused by unnoticed traumas that can cause some form of blood accumulation underneath the skin.  These can also be localized forms of skin infections which may have to be treated with antibiotics.

I agree with you showing this to her doctor.  I believe that this is most likely cancer-unrelated but nevertheless, needs to be evaluated (small possibility of skin metastasis).

Regards and God bless.
