Removal of Cyst ?

Removal of Cyst ?

About 10 years ago I found a lump in my left breast. I was sent to a surgyn and he wasn't sure why I was sent to him because it was just a cyst. Than in 1999 I had another mamogram (mammogram) and also had it asperated. As I recall there was no fluid found. At that time I also had an ultrasound and a core biopsy. That came back clean. I went back for regular mamograms and all seemed to be the same. In late January I called for a mamogram (mammogram) because the cyst was as usual causing some pain. I had the mamogram (mammogram) then was sent for an ultrasound. This time they saw something alittle different ( maybe scar tisue). It came back as cancer. I had a lumpectomy and centenalnodes removed. The result came back as stage 2 cancer. My question is this, should the cyst have been removed years ago when first found?

Dear tc73, A cyst may be aspirated to remove the fluid within it to relieve discomfort or to make sure it is fluid filled.  They are usually not totally removed.

cysts are very common in the breast, and they are harmless. Leaving a cyst in place does not lead to cancer. Since cysts are very common, many women who have them will also develop breast cancer; but there is no relation between the two. The important thing is that when a lump is found, no matter how many prior cysts there may have been, the new lump needs to be evaluated; it sounds like that was done in your case, fortunately for you.

I had a ultrasound and mamogram (mammogram) done today and they said it is a cyst. and now Im waiting for results. but Im worried because it really hurts alot on the right breast and throbs and aches quite abit. Im really scared because my mom died at the age of 50 from cervical cancer and I have had 2 cousins die of breast cancer. I was just wondering if anyone out there as had the same symtems. my doctor says if the cyst hurts it is prob. not cancer. but how do they really know for sure. Im so scared this will turn into cancer and I have 3 kids. 4,7and 13. I want to be here for along time with my kids. I have alot of people and friends to talk to but I thought it would be good to talk to someone who is going through this to.

thank you
