Retracted nipple

What exactly is meant by a retracted nipple? My understanding from what I have read is that it is a nipple that retracts suddenly or over time. However this is my question, does that nipple stay retracted when breast cancer is supected or would it come and go...like come out again when it is cold or stimulated?

I am confused about this.

My nipple goes in and out. It retracts when I lie down. However, when I sit up, it goes back to normal. Is this OK?

You are welcome!
I am glad that you’ll be seeing the Surgeon soon… Hopefully there won't be anything to worry about. The lump could be one of many benign swellings such as cysts or Fibroadenomas, which are the most common and harmless breast lumps.
I wish you good health and I hope that everything  goes well for you.
Good luck!

Thanks for answering. I shall stick to this one thread now. I have not yet been to my breast surgeon. My appointment is on Tuesday. I am in for the whole day to have different checks done. I now do have a lump on my breast. I am not sure if it is a cyst or just too much poking and swelling. I am worried but shall keep you posted as to what the outcome is. The retraction of nipple worries me but also confuses me. Thanks for your response. I feel the same way as you do.

Hi,
In your previous post you mentioned about your nipple retraction and I agree with your Doctor that unless the retraction was permanent, instead of coming and going like yours does, then it was most likely nothing to worry about. You also mentioned that your Doctor referred you to consult a Breast Specialist and if he/she also isn’t worried about it, then you shouldn’t be. As I mentioned before, breast Specialist are very knowledgeable about all types of breast’s problem and I am sure you’ll receive the best information after evaluation.
Take care..

P.S. Please, do not start a new thread if you have any additional questions or comments. It would be better if you keep them on the same thread by using the space below the answer/s you have received. This helps to have all your information together so we can better help you.
Thank you.
