Ruptured Breast Cyst

After a cyst could not be drained by a surgeon and radiologist, it was diagnosed as a ruptured cyst and a core needle biopsy was performed and reported as benign.  My question is this:  how long would the cyst remain after it had ruptured?

This discussion is related to Biopsy for cyst aspiration.

Hi.
Thanks for the clarification.
If the capsule was not removed, then there is still a possibility of the cyst returning.  You may continue to observe for any recurrence and report to your doctor any changes you notice.
Good luck.

one correction: neither the surgeon or radiologist were able to aspirate. hence the description of a ruptured cyst.  i assume that your reply still stands though. yes?

Hi.
It’s good to know that your biopsy turned out to be benign.
Since the capsule of the cyst was not removed, recurrence can occur.  The fluid inside the cyst that was removed during the aspiration procedure can re-accumulate.  Hence there will be an appearance of a lump in the same site.
Take care.
