Sarcoma of the Lungs from Sarcoma of breast

My sister is undergoing treatment of Sarcoma in the lining of possibly both lungs after having sarcoma removed with her breast 7 years ago with no chemo or radiation at that time. 2 types of chemo have failed to stop the growth and she is in radiation for 2 weeks now. Her only symptom of her cancer is pain and meds aren't that helpful. Do they every consider removal of at least one lung, on the painful side, in this case to reduce the pain or is the operation too involved to consider. Any other options open to her? Is this an enviromental caused cancer?

Dear Esam, With the cancer spreading into the lining of the lung, surgery to remove a lung would not be an option. It would most likely cause more harm than good.  Check with her oncologist or radiation oncologist regarding the pain management. It sounds like there needs to be an adjustment with her pain medications, or sometimes a combination is needed to deal with differing types of pain.  Hopefully the radiation will help to relieve some of the discomfort.  Another avenue that might be explored is whether some type of anesthesia pain management might be helpful such as a nerve block. Ask whether there is access to a palliative care service or pain management team.  The focus of palliative care is pain and symptom management of person
