Scar tissue from radiation

by jujus, Jul 03, 2009 01:50AM
I have recently undergone breast reconstruction. Dr placed tissue expander only first, and he "released some scar tissue" due to radiation in the arm pit area. He released more 3 months later when he inserted prosthesis and actually did the LD and then more release again with mastopexy just last week. I have gained lots more mobility with these especially the last one. Is all this "extra" work normal?  Is this going to cost me more because of these procedures?

When scar tissue is a factor it does complicate things. For the reconstruction to go well, scar tissue must often be dealt with as in your case. Just in the past couple days someone posted regarding this same issue but hadn't had the procedure done yet. As far as the cost you will have to take this up with your Plastic Surgeon; as a rule each procedure does have a seperate charge both by the Dr. as well as the hospital. there may be exceptions where the Dr. is concerned but not the hospital where the procedure was done.  Regards ....
