Second Mamogram and Second Call Back

Last year I had my first mamogram, was called back for futher evaluation that resulted in a stereotactic biopsy.  Results were benign - atypical ductual cells. I am not but 42; however had a complete hysterectomy at 21 and have been on hormone replacement.  I know that the early hysterectomy has caused my bone issues(been on Fosamax and actually just started Reclast this week -2.7) but I wonder if it is effecting the breast?  I went in for my annual mamo last week and have been called back yet again.  New spot directly under the nipple, same breast.  Sheduled US for next week.  So two mamos and 2 call backs...I am nervous..is this common, should I be worried, is this what I have to look forward to every year...

Hi,
It's not at all unusual to be called back for a spot compression mammogram.
Sometimes it's simply breast skin folding over on itself that appears like a shadow on a mammogram.
Usually with the spot compression, the shadow disappears.
I had this happened to me not too long ago.
Hoping that all will turn up to be just fine for you.
Wishing you well and good luck!
P.S. Please tall to your doctor about the hormone replacement therapy, because it could increase the risk of developing breast cancer.

I'm not clear on whether you meant: Could the homone replacement? or Could the Fosamax? be affecting your breasts, so I'll answer it both ways.

Hormone relacement: yes. It has been found to increase the risk for BC, which is why so many women went off their long-term HRT use a few years back, and why doctors now recommend that HRT (esp. combined HRT) be used at the lowest dose possible for the shortest time possible. (Didn't your doctor advise you to go off the hormones after the atypicla ductal cells were found?)

Bisphosphonates (Fosamax, Reclast, etc.): no. These drugs are actually used to help lower the risk of  BC and to treat bone mets in women who have advanced breast cancer.

Having two "call backs" does not necessarily mean this will always happen. I had it happen two years in a row, and then not for the following (4? or 5?) years.

I hope this call back turns out okay.

Best wishes...
