Second abnormal report in 3yrs

Second abnormal report in 3yrs

I know I'm probably jumping the gun but here goes.I'm 52 and my Mom lost her left breast to cancer.

In 2009 I had an abnormal mammogram that after a needle biopsy tuned out to be benign microcalcifications. Last years mammo was normal although, since we had moved to a new state they had nothing to compare it with.

Ok so I just got the report on me recent mammo and it states "COMPARISON: The 06/14/2010 mammogram from AZ-Tech Radiology has become available for comparison.
FINDINGS: The asymmetry in the lateral posterior right breast cannot be confirmed as stable. The
regionally distributed microcalcifications in the central left breast cannot be confirmed as stable.

I've already made the appt for the specialized views to be done (I have to wait a week!) I understand about the microcalcifications I guess but I really on edge about the asymmetry one. What might I be looking at with all this?

Since there are films now available for comparison I'm not sure why they can't be more definite about the stability of both findings. By the way for future reference you can always obtain copies of your films to take with you when you move and you should always do this.
asymmetry isn't usually thought of as a malignant finding although it was in years past. A greater majority upon biopsy are found to be benign. Distributed (scattered) microcalcifications are hardly ever cause for concern; they require biopsy when they are clustered or found in groups. I'm sure the additional views will produce some answers for you.  Regards .....

I just assumed that having the reports would be enough ~LOL~ Now I know better. I had always thought that if I had microcals on one side I'd get them on the other so that didn't surprise me much. I guess I'll just have to be patient until the testing is done. The waiting ***** though ~LOL~

Everyone shares your feeling about waiting .... It's the WORST !!
Microcalcifications do occur normally in the breast tissue and appear as tiny white dots scattered about but they need not occur in both breasts or sometimes not at all. When they are clustered or grouped they are an indication that the breast tissue is reacting to something that isn't normal ..... this however still doesn't mean that cancer is the culprit. Hope your time passes quickly and you'll have your results soon.  Take care

Thanks so much for your words of support.  I am getting a lot scared of just the test and laying on that table so long.

You are so very welcome. I don't think it won't take near as long as you think it might. When I had mine down they computer system went down and they had to reboot it twice! I'm sure yours will go just fine! Remember to just relax and you'll be fine.
