Second opinions

I have been diagnosed with Invasive BC that is ER/PR positive, Her2 negative, tumor is 4CM. No node test yet but U/S mri suggest node negative status. One surgeon is suggesting mastectomy with Hormone treatment ( no chemo). When I went for second opinion, they are suggesting 16 weeks of Chemo before the surgery then lumpectomy if tumor shrinks. It is confusing. I had CT scan, don't have the results yet. MY surgeon says I don't need PET scan, she is ordering a bone scan. I don't know what they will miss if PET scan is not done.

Chemo is usually done for lumps over 1cm weather lymph nodes are involved or not. No one wants chemo but you have to do anything to keep the cancer from coming back. Please go to breastcancer.org and join the discussion board there to talk to other ladies with the same diagnosis and search their site about cancers, treatments and other wonderful info. I wish you well. Please keep us posted.

I have a little info I can provide about my treatment.  They found BC last summer.  I only had a CT of chest and abdomen and bone scan.  No PET scan.  Both of these tests are very important.  They found invasive duct. carn in 2 lumps in one breast.  I opted for a double mast.  They were not going to tell me anything about chemo until after they were in the breast and could test the lymph nodes.  I had no cancer in the nodes so no chemo needed.  My lumps were both at stage 1.  Not sure how big your lump is.  I have heard about chemo to treat larger tumers.  I hope someone can offer you more info about their case if it's like yours.

The PET can is something that I was not aware about this summer. The doctors never offered it.  Funny thing.  They have founds some lumps in liver and lungs since then.  I had a CT of them.  Then they ordered a PET scan.  The PET scan showed no hot spots in the lump areas but some lymph nodes in chest under the sternum.  Hard to test.  We are just watching until the 2nd of April.  The doctor told me that the PET shows infections and cancer.  I think that it is a good test and hope to have
