Second round of microcalcifications

by shabby6485, Nov 04, 2009 07:01PM
Hi Last year was diagnosed with ADH after microcalcifications were found on mammo.  My mother is a bc survivor and i have dense/fibro. breasts. Due to these risks, I was put on a alternating 6 month mri/mammo schedule.  I had a mri in the spring which was fine. Two days ago, I had my mammo and they found an area of clustered microcalcs and now am scheduled for a stereo biopsy this friday.  I was pretty shocked.
Wouldn't the mri show dcis in that area?  Also, I had an excisional biopsy right above the new calcs and the radiologist do not think they are related...?  I am scared.

No type of imagery can show a definite diagnosis .... only an area of suspicion that would need to be biopsied. As a rule when ADH is diagnosed the area is surgically removed with wide excision followed sometimes by radiation and then possibly Tamoxifen after that. This may or may not be related to the previous diagnosis if there was not a complete excision of the area of ADH last time as well as some additional treatment.    Regards ....
