Sentinel nodes

Sentinel nodes

I am scheduled for a lumpectomy on 11/15/02, and my doctor believes that we will only take out the sentinel nodes for checking, with a 97 to 98% accuracy rate . My tumor is 1.5 cm,which was seen on ultra-sound, not mammo's or compressions point. It is located on the upper right side of my breast, well-differentiated, and of a tubular nature/charachteristics, but not tubular in itself. Will this be enough?

mccar2:  The use of sentinel lymph node biopsy in isolation is still controversial.  Some breast specialists feel that the incidence of skip metastasis (where the first node is negative and subsequent nodes are positive) is too high to do this procedure exclusively except in extremely low risk cases.  Different doctors feel differently.
