Shingles

by Dolly44, Jan 07, 2008 06:54AM
Hi

I had IBC July 2006 and finished chemo and radiotherapy in April.  Since then I have got shingles twice (in two different areas).  Is this "normal" and should I be concerned.  Also I was told  I had IBC intermediate grade, does that mean I have Stage 1, 2, 3 or 4 IBC.  Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Inflammatory breast cancer is classified as stage 3B in all cases except in cases where it has spread to distant lymph nodes or distant organs when it is classified as stage 4.

About the shingles, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are known to depress the immune system and this could be the cause of shingles in your case.

What does your oncologist have to say about this?
Hope this helps.
Good luck.

Hi
I had invasive BC which I think is different from inflammatory.  I was told in was intermediate, so I was wondering what stage intermediate comes under e.g.  1, 2, 3 or 4.
Also finished radiotherapy to right breast last April and developed shingles 2 weeks post it around the right chest area.  The second time I got shingles was around my left hip.  I was given Zovirex 400mg one five times daily.  I dont see my oncologist for another 3 months.  Should I be concerned and see him before that, etc.

Thanks for all your help.

HI,

It would be best if you could tell us the size of the tumour, its spread to lymph nodes etc so that the exact stage can be told.

About the shingles- you can continue taking the medications prescribed. you do not need an emergency appointment if the lesions are regressing.

But in case the lesions are persistent and not healing or new lesions appearing it would be advisable to call up your oncologist and reschedule your appointment.

Do let us know about your progress.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.
