Should I be concerned

Should I be concerned

I am a 49 year old female with a strong family history of breast cancer and ovarian cancer (mother, aunt and grandmother). I had a routine mammogram 30 July 09 which showed microcalcifications in the right breast. I subsequently had a stereotactic biopsy which showed ADH. I then had a wide local excision done on 28 September which showed ADH and fibroadenomatous hyperplasia. 3 weeks post surgery I developed swelling in the right breast, reddening, ridgesin the breast and pain. I was treated with a course of antibiotics and after 2 weeks there was still no improvement of symptoms. I have just completed another 3 week course of antibiotics and anti inflammatories with no improvement and my doctor has referred me for an urgent ultrasound scan on Tuesday. Should I be concerned?

Dear Ali,   It is difficult to say not to be concerned without a reason for the continuation of your symptoms, and the ability to review your case including physical examination.   Having further evaluation of your continuing symptoms is an appropriate course of action.
