Should I get 2nd opinion?

Should I get 2nd opinion?

I  am a 34 yr old female  who's MOM has had breast cancer  twice(both breasts, modified radical mastectomies).
My Gyn sent me for my first mammogram,on which the radiologist found a very small  spot in my right breast. The spot only showed up in one of the views. The letter  I recieved from the radiologist says that they need  more  pictures of the breast, but my Gynocologist's office says they will send me back in 6 mos. for another mammogram to see if there are any changes. (The nurse said it could just be breast tissue overlapping itself) 6 mos. just seems like such a long time. I have been reading about magnified mammograms ,and I am wondering if I should insist on something  like that, get a 2nd opinion,  or if there is another test I  can request, or do I just sit and  wait .
Thank  you for any advice  or information you have on this subject.

Dear Dananddi, Neither advise is necessarily wrong. A mammogram using spot compression is the use of a smaller disk that compresses a specific area of the breast.  This could help in terms of flattening the area out more and if it is breast tissue overlapping, enable the radiologist to see the area more clearly.  Waiting 6 months may be 6 months of needless worry for you if additional views find all OK.

Hi.  Sorry for butting in and not to scare you but please get it checked out now.  Don't delay.  In the small chance it is cancer, 6 months could make a difference.  I was 28 years old when diagnosed and my gyn looked me in the eyes and said no way it's cancer.  Wanted me to wait 6 months.  I said no and demanded an ultrasound and it was cancer.  Not saying you have cancer, just saying that the sooner you find these things if it is the better chance of your survival. I would pay for it myself if the insurance doesn't want to and I would demand my gyn office to refer me to get it checked out further.  This is YOUR life.

best wishes,
bec

I'm butting in too. I do think you should get a second opinion soon. Even if you have to pay for it, the peace of mind is priceless. I promise.

THank you for responding to my question. I am very grateful!
I have  been trying to get my Gyn. on the phone, but both times he's returned my calls (several hrs later) I haven't been home. Hopefully I will be able to talk with him tomorrow. Deep inside I know I need a 2nd opinion, but I'm really not sure what to ask for(or who to ask), another mammogram? ultrasound? I am going to start with my gyn and go from there. But, Should I call the radiologists office and ask to speak to the  person who read my x-rays?  Should I have those x-rays re-read  and/or get new ones.........................
I'm so confused!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyhow thanks again!
