Should I take Taxol?

Should I take Taxol?

I am 56 and was diagnosed with moderately differentiated ductal cancer in my left breast, 1.5cm.  I began a regime of four AC treatments in April before my surgery on July 19th when I had a double mastectomy with a sentinel node biopsy on the left with was negative.  They unexpectedly found poorly differentiated lobular cancer, .8cm on the right side with negative nodes.  I am estrogen receptor positive and plan to begin tamoxifen soon.  Do you think I should also take more chemotherapy because the neo-adjuvant therapy didn't seem to eliminate the cancer on the right side.  However, it did shrink the original tumor from 1.5cm to 1.0cm.  My onocologist thinks that the tamoxifen will be adequate but I do want to make sure I'm doing the right thing.
I know that there are still trials going on with regard to Taxol and Taxotere.  What is you opinion?

Dear redbean:  Your question is a very good one.  Unfortunately, there is no definitive data that answers the question for your situation.  Currently, to do no additional therapy may be the standard of care.  However, a more aggressive approach may be to give additional chemotherapy.  To give an opinion on the internet would be to do you a disservice.  This question would be best answered through a long discussion with a well-experienced medical oncologist who can evaluate the details of your case and discuss the pros and cons of additional therapy as it would apply specifically to you.  Although you may have an excellent physician, this would be a good time to obtain a second opinion from a medical oncologist who specializes in breast cancer at a large teaching hospital, if for no other reason than your peace of mind.
