Dear MaryC23321: In general, a new
lumpLumps in the breasts that can be felt requires evaluation. A mammogram and ultrasound, as well as clinical examination are tools to help evaluate what the
lumpLumps in the breasts might be and what additional testing should be done. If a mammogram and ultrasound cannot rule out cancer, a biopsy may be recommended to determine the exact nature of the lump. It is not a sign of cancer. Rather, it is a test to help determine what the lump may be. A changing mole may also require further evaluation but may be unrelated to the breast lump.
